How about making Gnumeric able to be used as a command-line tool? I believe
Gnumeric is one of the best spreadsheet format converters on Linux platforms,
so it would be nice to use it in some scripts, to convert from plain-text to
XLS files... ;-)

I believe Jody has this in his sights, but it is still a little while
away.

Does anybody know if "Jody" ever got around to doing this? Almost two years
have passed since then, and rummaging through the user manual and the mailing
list turned up nothing much more...

The issue is to be able to use gnumeric as a command-line tool to be able
to convert from one spreadsheet format to another...

Anybody have any ideas? I have a specific Excel spreadsheet (Office XP I think)
that I've tried putting through many many other converter utilities (ALL of the
ones in the FreeBSD ports at least), and none of them can actually process this
specific spreadsheet... Yes, I can open it in excel and then save as, but
what's the point in that? I receive this spreadsheet from a customer on a
regular basis...

We're still working on it.
The development tree is now well arranged to support this, but none
of us have focused on it. I'll see if I can work it into some
changes to the i/o subsystem that will start shortly.
