formula bar and clicking a cell

Preface: gnumeric is becoming really nice. Thank you.

Grumble: There's something that seems to me odd and annoying about
formula entry in gnumeric.

Take the trivial case where I have numbers in cells A1 and B1 and I
want to enter a formula in C1 to return the product of these numbers.

If I go to C1, type "=", click on A1, type "*", click on B1, then
press Enter, it works fine. So far so good.

But from using Excel over the years I'm in the habit of clicking in
the formula bar to focus it when typing elements of a formula.
Let's say I do:

Go to C1; type "="; click A1; _click in the formula bar_ and type "*".
The result so far is "=A1*". Fine.

Now I click on B1: instead of the formula becoming "=A1*B1" as I'd
expect, it becomes "=B1*". That is, focussing the formula bar has
somehow caused my second click on a cell to overwrite the previous
cell reference in the formula, rather than appending the new
reference. Is this a feature or a bug?
