I will comment there, thanks. I've also thought more about
auto-terminating gnote after a period of inactivity and don't think its
worth worrying about (additional complexity and potential for new
problems for little or possibly no benefit).

I will probably add at least a GSettings flag for the extension to
enable/disable activation of Gnote via dbus. If Gnote is not running and
the user opts not to use activation, then the extension would just
return no results in response to gnome-shell queries (until Gnote shows
up on dbus).

Thanks. I'll need to convince myself first that its necessary. I think I
can reasonably limit the number of async calls per search, as
gnome-shell can only display a limited number of search results anyway,
so I shouldn't need to query the title for 100 notes if only 10 can be
displayed.
