The card hardware encodes video into mpeg format. All decoding is done via software. The computer isn't aware of the camera, only the tuner card.

The tuner card seems to be encoding the video into mpeg format. I've read
online that one can use gconftool-2 to set the colour format, however I
have not found much info on how to do this.  Any suggestions would be
helpful. Thanks!
