FedoraCore3
===========

Gnomemeeting failed to work again.

On connecting
h323:h323.voxgratia.org

following warning popup;
Could not open audio channel for audio transmission

An error occured while trying to record from the
soundcard for the audio transmission. Please check
that your soundcard is not busy and that your driver
supports full-duplex.
The audio transmission has been disabled.
<<<

# fuser /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p
/dev/snd/pcmC0D0p:    4594  4594m
# ps ax | grep 4594
4594 ?        S      0:30 /usr/bin/artsd -F 10 -S
4096 -d -m artsmessage -c drkonqi -l 3 -f
5656 pts/3    S+     0:00 grep 4594

# /usr/bin/artsshell status
unable to connect to sound server

This happened after playing around on "XMMS" to play
MP3. Now MP3 is still working. Both Gnomemeeting and
timidity++ don't work. Before both of them were
working without problem

It seems "XMMS" occupying the sound server. Please
advise how to fix this problem.

TIA

It's not exactly that. XMMS uses the sound server, and the sound server blocks the device.

The result is the same: gnomemeeting can't access the audio device.

The solution is to force artsd to release it's lock on the device when it's not playing.

Snark on #gnomemeeting
I have the same problem with Mandriva. How can we do artsd to relese it's lock on the device when it is not playing? May you teach step by step?

Thanks in advance.
