No problem if you either use a card with hardware mixing or the alsa dmix software mixing. But remember, dmix only works with the alsa api, any application using oss emulation (the aoss wrapper is ok) will block the sound devices. And of course all applications using alsa should really be set to using the right device, so either default (if default is set to be a mixing device) or plughw:dmix.
