Which OV511 driver are you using?  I highly suggest the most recent dev 
version from

http://alpha.dyndns.org/ov511/

as opposed to the one that comes with whatever kernel you're using.

Additionally, I prefer to turn off the auto-brighness and auto-exposure, 
becuase the algorithms stink.  See if that helps.
