yes it would work.  personally i prefer to download .src.rpm files
mostly and recompile them.  the command you need to run is rpmbuild
--rebuild "whatever".src.rpm  then once thats done rpm -ivh
/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/"whatever".i386.rpm 
you should then have no issues.
