[GnomeMeeting-list] GM 0.85.1/Slackware 8.0 and Gconf Permissions

Hello all,
I'm not having much success running GM 0.85.1.
Yes, I have scoured the GM mailing list, I know this a fairly common
problem, but I've not been able to solve it. I contacted Damien, and
he's been very helpful, but we still can't solve the puzzle.
He is probably at his wits end w/my issue ;)

I also contacted Vincent Deroo too.

Already tried purging the source tree and re-installing.
Each time I run GM, I receive this error: 

"Please check your gconf
settings and permissions, it seems that gconf 
is not properly setup on your system"

Below is a my initial listing of gconf.xml.defaults..

/usr/local/GnomeMeeting-0.85.1# ls -al /etc/opt/gnome/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/

After doing a -> chmod -R a+rw /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults 
I get the following:

My setup is as follows:
Slackware 8.0(2.4.14), Gconf 1.1. 

I've installed all of the necessary libraries listed on the GM website.
Everything was compiled from source.

Any help would be appreciated..
