I have both Intel Create and Share and Logitech Quickcam Express cameras.  
Both seem to work well (the Intel having a much better image quality).  
Getting the drivers for Linux took a little research:

http://spca50x.sourceforge.net/    (Intel Create and Share + others)
http://qce-ga.sourceforge.net/     (Logitech Quickcam and friends)

Both have been tested rather extensively here with GM (0.12 and CVS) and
work very well.  Neither driver is very good with apps like xawtv or
SANE however....
