You are quite right, I had been using -Uvh.  Since I'm basically a
chicken, I'll leave the *.so.1 files in place and not take a chance on
compatibility.  If I think I need GM0.12 bad enough, I'll do a build
from source.  Or try to anyway.  Thanks.
