I don't know if you have seen it yet, but Ubuntu has recently patched
the appearance capplet to include a "Desktop Effects" tab. I don't
know if they plan to upstream that, but we already had plans to do the
same (even if our idea was not to make it three check boxes that
essentially amount to a crack - more crack - insane crack slider). So
I think it makes sense to do this upstream for 2.22.
That's bug 461730 [1].
As I said in a orevious posting when this topic came up, it would
be nice to know what the differences between the distros are in
that respect. I know they exist, but that's about it. I've seen
the Ubuntu one because it's attached to the bug, but only knowing
this one approach I don't feel I have the means to decide whether
that's the best option there is or whether another distro's
solution would maybe be better.
I think Bastien suggested making a page in the wiki where the different
"extra effects" tabs/capplets/whatever could be introduced, and I agreethat
would be a good idea. We could easily reuse the appearance capplet
page [2], for example.
