After some user requests in the GNOME forum, see

http://gnomesupport.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5432, I made a mockup for a possible apps.gnome page.
The mockup is available here: http://clausi.funpic.de/index.html
Please note that it is a first simple-html draft. However, forum feedback
has been positive so far; also the feedback in the gnome-art IRC channel.
Now I'd like to ask you about your opinion; and if the GNOME project would
generally agree to host the pages when finished.
If so, I will proceed with working on them, adding scripts and a database,
adding and updating content and the like. I don't know how long this will
take, maybe some months. However, it's not necessary to spend time on this if the
GNOME project rejects the first draft. :)
I don't mind about the later address, but users would like apps.gnome, I
believe.
This is my first post to a GNOME list. Hopefully I found the correct words
for the proposal, as well as the correct list. If not, I apologize.

Claus Schwarm
I agree with the proposal. It's a good thing for Linux and Gnome. Go
ahead. One could include app.web.gnome.org for program that uses a web
server ( like CUPS, httrack and so on ) , so they can be used with any
desktop in Linux.
To configure the locales before install them ( for Gnome Locales) the
user could utilize LYNX ( i.e. apt-get install gnome-locales and them
select the concrete locales using a web client, curses and so on -
connecting to the internet to download the concrete locales, but in a
graphical environment).
Regards.
