I took a shot at rewriting the contact page. It's attached and it's in raw HTML form.

If we decide to point to the l.g.o. page instead, it too would have to be rewritten -- and split, as you suggested. I do like the idea of using a wiki but if it is meant to serve public documentation/pages strict(er) editorial rules should probably be devised to keep its content usable.

Contact GNOME

You can get in touch with members of the GNOME community by email, via IRC, through the GNOME User's Board, through the GNOME Wiki, or through this and other GNOME sites. All of these resources are available in English; many are also available in several other languages.

Members of the press should visit our Press page for specific contact information.

Mailing Lists

The GNOME community relies on mailing lists to run the GNOME project. You can consult the mailing list index where you will find information on how to subscribe and links to the archives of those lists. For general questions about using GNOME, the most appropriate list is gnome-list. The common language on all of those lists is English with the exception of the following lists which are dedicated to the many regional and linguistic communities represented within the project:

GNOME Sites

If you have a question about GNOME, the answer might already be on our website. There are several complete guides to using GNOME – the User's Guide, the Accessibility Guide, and the System Administrator's Guide – all available from our documentation page. Developers will find a wealth of information at developer.gnome.org which is entirely devoted to application building on the GNOME Platform. As for anyone interested in getting involved, "How To Help" is a good place to start.

Similar information exist at the following sites in languages other than English:

Bugzilla, GNOME's bug database and tracking system, is the preferred means of bug reporting. If you're interested in using Bugzilla, be sure to read the Bug Writing HOWTO which tells you everything you need to know about reporting bugs effectively.

If you wish to contact someone representing the GNOME project in an official capacity please refer to the GNOME Foundation's website.

IRC

If you're familiar and comfortable with Internet Relay Chat, you will find that IRC is a great way to get help and to get involved. The IRC network with the largest GNOME presence is GIMPnet, with the channels #gnome-help (for getting help with GNOME) and #gnome (for developer discussion) being the main resources.

Once again, it's easy to contact people in a language other than English. Just try one of these channels:
