I do like that better than the darker color; perhaps however it would be nice to put a border or dark background around the various boxes of text? So, a white BG for the nav and content, and a darker (warm, autumnal brown, perhaps?) one outside of that? 

But as long as it's legible, well-organized, and easy to navigate, I say go for it.

>     Hello, I hope it is alright to give a little input even though I have not participated much with gnome but I wanted to suggest that the homepage of gnome.org have a white background instead of the dark gray color. I have been following the discussion for changing the homepage and I agree fully that it should be more like the rest of the gnome sites. The most obvious step would be to making the background color white. I made a quick version at:
