Getting Started Again: Design Goals

Hey gnome web hackers and designers! It looks like we're ready to get the ball rolling on the new gnome.org website...we're looking to launch the new site in time for LWE.

This means we have some time, but not a lot.

So...let's get started again.

I took a look at the design...the concept is good, but the design now doesn't really match with the feel of the new logo. We need something cleaner, something that'll get the message of the gnome brand out.

That being said, let's come up with a set of goals for the new design. I'll start the thread.

Goals:
Gnome.org should be usable by your everyday corporate guy.

Clean, crisp look, matching the look of the new logo (no marbled/mushy background images...that sort of thing)

Clean, crisp fonts (something without serifs, but not necessarily arial, either.) and usable visible font sizes

Simple IA (I sent out some schematics, and will be putting them up as well).

Consistent look and feel for every section of the site. (layout, form elements, tag images, that sort of thing)....and...

Stylesheets for the different sections of the site. So colors may change from area to area, but the overall look and feel should be the same no matter where you are.

Appropriate colors that promote the GNOME brand - what should those colors be?

Nomenclature and text for different areas of the site. Let's replace the "GNOME - Computing Made Easy" tagline to something real. Also, let's simplify and update much of the text we already have on the site.
Any others?
