Glad you mention Thatware. I'm sure patches are welcome, they have been
in the past. So I don't think there would be a problem with patching
Thatware to do exactly what you want to do.
The main author's goal is a self-contained weblog based on php with
minimalistic dependencies (so far it's only php and mysql, so you can
run it on almost all platforms), and as long as the patches conform to
that spirit, I'm very sure they are welcome.

I'd recommend Thatware, but of course I'm biased :-)
