Let us bow our heads in prayer

Time to touch on a religious issue here. :)

I know that PHP3 is currently running on gnome.org, but I would like to
upgrade it to PHP4 in order for language enhancements, and the fact that
some of the SF code might possibly be dependent upon it (I haven't
tested it yet).

After reading through the PHP4 license it seems to me that for a
non-profit organization like GNOME that its license is not a problem. It
basically states that you can not embed the Zend engine into a
commercial product.

However, I do realize that this restriction *may* be at odds with GNU
ideology. (This is debatable since you cannot embed GPL code in a
commercial product either. Anyway, it wouldn't qualify as Free Software
probably). I am an avid GNU supporter, but on this issue I would have to
say that the PHP4 license does not bother me since I have no commercial
interest in the Zend engine.

I'm hoping that we can have a response from the server maintainers while
avoiding the religious arguments. A simple "no way in hell, die bastard"
would probably suffice.

P.S. Does anyone else never receive the confirmation email when trying
to subscribe to gnome-hackers? I was thinking to CC: them too, but I
can't get subscribed :(
