Hi,
When we use ftp method in nautilus, should it show permissions for the
files/folders ? Right now, nautilus does not show permissions, instead
user is shown the message "permissions could not be determined". sftp
method shows permissions though.
There are certain issues to be considered if we are showing the permissions.
a) If uid of the file on the server does not match any uid on the client
system, then that uid is shown as owner. In this case, properties dialog
displays a message "you are not the owner of the file, so can't change
permissions...". This should be fine.
a) If uid of the file on the server is same as the uid of any users on
the client side, then that user is shown as the owner. But in fact, the
client side owner does not have any permissions on those files. And
properties dialog *does not* display the message "you are not the owner
of the file, so can't change permissions...". It is misleading.
These issues are valid for other remote access ptotocols like sftp, smb etc.
Please advise on whether to show permission or not.
Regards,
Archana
P.S: I am not in gnome-vfs list. Request you to CC me while replying.
