This generally happens when gnome-vfs can't find shared-mime-info. Since you are using packages from your distribution, this shouldn't happen... When you install gnome-vfs/shared mime info out of prefix, you need to set XDG_DATA_DIRS if you don't want to get this problem, but this shouldn't happen in your case. You may have better luck by filing a bug report against your distribution first...
