Re: mime-info/user.keys can't be modified, please help.

Hi Jody

Thanks for your help. I tried the method you've mentioned. What I've found on my machine is
the file /etc/gconf/schemas/apps_gnome_settings_daemon_default_editor.schemas
contains the following message

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<gconfschemafile>
  <schemalist>
    <schema>
      <applyto>/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/editor/sync_text_types</applyto>
      <key>/schemas/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/editor/sync_text_types</key>
      <type>bool</type>
      <default>true</default>
      <locale name="C">
        <short>Sync text/plain and text/* handlers</short>
        <long>If true, the mime handlers for text/plain and text/* will be kept in sync</long>
      </locale>
    </schema>
  </schemalist>
</gconfschemafile>

I tried to change the value true to false and reboot the machine, it seems that the problem still
exists. Can u give me some further suggestions?

Thanks again for your help.

I doubt if there is some backend process that keeps me from
modifying the file user.keys.

Can anybody give me any idea about

1. What should I do in this case to modify the file user.keys

2. Is this a bug of openoffice or gnome_mime_vfs?

Just a guess but,
The control center settings daemon is trying to keep text/* and
text/plain in sync.

gnome-control-center/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-default-editor.c

You can disable it with
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/default_editor/sync_text_types

See if that fixes things.
