gnome-vfs v. bzlib.h

I'm trying to build gnome-vfs in jhbuild on RedHat 9, but it's complaining
about bzlib.h not being found. I installed the bzip2-1.0.2 tarball from
source in my jhbuild prefix, and the header is there now, but it still
complains about it.

but that sounds kind of dodgy.

Does anyone have any ideas?
