Re: interns' lightning talks at GUADEC

Hi Meg,

The organizers kindly "fished out" all the talks submitted by the interns for us :). So we will be able to update the title for your talk when we add talks by other interns. I proposed "High Contrast Icons, GNOME Documents UIs for Viewing and Editing of File Metadata" below for your talk, but please let me know if you prefer a different title and I will enter that in.

Thanks!
Marina

Hi,

I am coming to GUADEC as well. I submitted an application for a lightning talk; should I change the title since I'll be talking about OPW as well, or is the original title OK?

Thanks!
Meg

Dear interns,

We have an interns' lightning talks session scheduled at GUADEC for 15:30-17:00 on Sunday, July 29. It's organized by me and Christophe Fergeau ( cfergeau gmail com ), so please send all the responses, questions, and slides to us.

The full GUADEC schedule can be seen here:
https://www.gpul.org/indico/ conferenceTimeTable.py?confId= 0

1) We would like to double check who is attending GUADEC. The list below includes the interns who are sponsored by the Foundation, plus a few more interns who we know are attending. Please write back by Monday, July 9 to confirm your attendance if you are on this list and tell us what the title for your talk should be. Also, please let us know if you are attending GUADEC, but are not on this list. We would like the current GSoC and OPW interns, as well as the OPW interns from December to March round who are attending GUADEC to do lightning talks at the session.

2) If you haven't done so yet, please register for GUADEC immediately by filling out the form linked to from http://www.guadec.org/ registration For people sponsored by the Foundation, select "Hobbyist Registration - Member of pre-arranged Group Registration" and use Group Registration Code "TRAVEL COMMITTEE". For accommodations, if the Foundation is sponsoring your lodging, select "I will arrange my own accommodation" (the Foundation will arrange it for you). You can optionally fill out a Roommate field if you had agreed to share a room with a particular person. It's important that you are registered for GUADEC so that the conference organizers can find you in the system and add you to the interns' lightning talk session. We will submit your talks for you, so you don't need to submit them individually.

3) You will have 3 minutes for your presentation, and all the slides will be compiled in one presentation file ahead of time. Please send your slides to us in the .pdf format by Friday, July 20. (If you are using LibreOffice, you can use File -> Export as PDF... to convert slides to .pdf format.) You can have up to 3 slides with text/screenshots, and optionally up to 2 more slides with screenshots and only a short caption. Please include your name, project(s), and program(s) on the first slide. Please practice to be sure you can complete your presentation in under 3 minutes.

4) Meg, Emily, and Jovanka, because you have also recently completed an OPW internship, please cover a little bit about what you did during that internship during your presentation too. If you will find it useful, you can use an additional minute and additional 2 slides for your presentation.

Thanks!
Marina
