Very difficult autotools setup; AM HAVE_INTROSPECTION ??

The Subject: describes badly the issue being in my build attempt.

As I am familiar with autotools, but rusty, I can say that I
half-understand the nature of the show-stopper.

Or without the Web, the error upon running Automake is:

   src/Makefile.am:377: error: HAVE_INTROSPECTION does not appear in
AM_CONDITIONAL

BTW, what I am trying to do is fit up my Debian Jessie machine
(virtualbox really, I won't mess with the Window Manager or DM/
Session management in a host) ...fit it with a current build of
mutter.  BTW, Jessie comes without the mutter-message executable.
Thereby some motivation (although I guess this list is mature enough
to refrain from "WWYWTDT"s.
