Christian, there is a video [1] you can see the windows animations from Giovanni's patch.

Notice that there aren't animations for maximize/unmaximize windows.

I'm not sure why you think that people on this list would disagree
with you on this. GNOME Shell uses many animations already, and I
don't think anyone has ever argued against having animated window
transitions.

Giovanni actually recently landed a bunch of patches to add window
animations, probably based on your suggestion:
