I think that an answer could be to have a look at the file
'metadata.json' in the extension folder.
It should contain a line like this:
"shell-version": ["3.5.2", "3.5.3", "3.5.4", "3.5.5", "3.5.90", "3.5.91"]
that explicitly set the compatible versions of the shell.
