Does anyone have experience with having multiple versions of
gnome-shell on the one computer simultaneously and switching between
them?
Depending upon your machine's oomph, you might want to consider a
couple of small VMs for that (and install a distro using the version of
GS you want, or replace it with a compiled one for 3.5+). It would at
least guarantee no cross-pollination of libraries, etc.
