Hello all. I haven't been following the mailing list for quite some
time, but I wanted to throw in an opinion here on the table and see what
could be brewed up about it.
For some time I have been using Gnome Shell now, but I've constantly
felt like there was something missing in regard to opening active
applications. The overlay move, oh my gosh. It's so nice, so intuitive.
But to use that alone to switch applications, it's just not the most
efficient thing to do considering the windows get re-stacked and move
around frequently. Alt-Tab leaves something to be desired, but I've
always felt this way about Alt-Tab in general. It's not a true "window
switcher", but just a quick way to snap back to the previous menu (in my
opinion).
I installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix virtually to check it out, and they do
something that I personally find extremely intelligent. I feel like it's
the missing ingredient to Gnome Shell having an easy way to switch
applications. When in UNR with multiple applications open, they get an
icon in the upper left corner (by the "Activities" button-area on Gnome
Shell). That would be genius to see that on GS. That way users who might
not like to see the zoom in-out all the time between switching windows
can do so easily. I feel like it'd be one last missing ingredient that
would compliment the entire feeling and structure of Gnome Shell in
general. I know if I had this option, it'd make Gnome Shell feel just
that much more complete to me. And since we Gnome users just loooove
customizing, if that could be an on/off option (in case some users
desire the more clean top panel) then that'd be better yet. :)
Fantastic work, devs. We're happy with the results so far! Keep it real.
