There has been discussion here about making the desktop just another view for recent/relavant files. However, I believe this can be extended to include a view of the Task Pooper. Basically, the Desktop would have two sections:
- Things that I have been doing recently
- Things that I plan to do.
The first of these sections would show recent/relavant files.
The second part would be a larger display of the Task Pooper: It would show all the tasks that the user has planned to do, separated by the time frame the user planned to do them in: ie, today, tomorrow, etc. Items that deserve attention could be highlighted on the desktop, thus helping the user stay on task, by reminding the user what needs to be done.
Furthermore, the desktop view of the Task Pooper would allow dragging and dropping as well, so the user could drop things to do onto it as well. When something is being dragged, a placeholder icon could appear in the task pooper section of the desktop, with the text "Drop Things here to make it a task" (or something to the same effect). Finally, when the task pooper is empty, the desktop view could show the same text at all times, thus introducing the user to the task pooper feature.
I think this would make the desktop a great tool for
reminding users about the tasks that they plan to do on the computer, and keep files that need to be worked on easy to access.
Just a suggestion.
