Hi, - Have you run "jhbuild shell" before doing "./src/gnome-shell --replace"? - Also, try switching to Metacity before you start gnome-shell (for this press Alt+F2, execute "metacity --replace" and try changing the workspace -for example- to ensure that the effect Compiz would do is gone).
