Hi Florian,

First of all, thank you for your patches. It's good that the sidebar
is again getting some much needed attention.

I've opened a bug for the automatic hiding and have reviewed your
patch there: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=604118 (no
promises that I'll be accepted though, I'm only an occasional
contributor :)).

About the first one, please do the same and file a bug for it (after
renewing the patch, if needed, so that it applies cleanly to the
current code). However on this feature, I personally prefer how it's
now (ie. not having it vertically centered, but at the top), but let's
see what the others say.
