settings daemon

I am new to the list. Please forgive me if my question is a frequent one.

After loading RedHat 8.0 on a Compaq 500mhz machine, I consistently get 
the message that there is a problem with the Gnome Settings Daemon 
loading too many times. I have searched for answers, but the few I 
found, I was unsure how to implement.

How do I fix this problem?
