I found the problem, I'm a bit embarassed. :)
I was starting evolution using the gnome mail check applet. I had set
evolution in the "Execute when clicked" feature.
The problem, was that I was DOUBLE-clicking the mail check applet to get
evolution started. Once wombat and co. was started and in memory, a
double click would be ignored, but while wombat was starting, the second
click gave the errors...
