You're right that they're supposed to be (though I'm busily trying to
document which libs we actually _do_ support as bin compatible over
time, because right now the list of libs is too long, and screwups are
inevitable - so hopefully we can drop the ABI guarantees for lots of
them).
I have no idea what the actual situation with readline is,
however. What error do you get? Has the major version simply changed,
or is some symbol missing? Maybe there's a compat package you could
install?
