A bit confused; this works for me:

gdbus call --session --dest org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Power
--object-path /org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/Power --method
org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Power.Screen.StepUp

This commit seems to have broken the interface;

It looks like you can now set the brightness just by writing to the
"Brightness" property on the same interface. I hope that helps.
