[gpm] gnome's black light control for LCD displays

HI all this is my first post.

Gnome's default screen saver is the "Blank screen".  I noticed that
when the blank screen is being used on LCD displays the back light
remains lit.  To test for this put the machine in a very dark room and
you will notice the screen glows.  This is a waste of energy and wares
out the screen.
