[gpm] Brightness cairo display thing

Matthew suggested [1] making a popup dialogue for when the user manually
changes the brightness of the laptop panel using the keyboard.
I guess he means something like the brightness popup for pbbuttonsd,
which is here:

I think this is a good idea. Unfortunately, we can't use standard icons
for this, as some laptops have 7 steps, some 8, and some 13. I was
thinking on the lines of a cairo drawn dynamic sun widget that gets
brighter as the level goes up, or maybe a standard gtk bar that moves
across.
But then I'm no graphic artist, I'm a programmer.
Better ideas welcome.
