I ran a yum update and took in Utopia packages:
Jun 08 21:28:56 Updated: PolicyKit.i386 0.2-cvs20060608rhughes
Jun 08 21:29:00 Updated: hal.i386 0.5.8-cvs20060608rhughes
Jun 08 21:29:16 Updated: gnome-power-manager.i386 2.15.3-cvs20060608rhughes
Jun 08 21:29:17 Updated: pm-utils.i386 0.20.0-cvs20060608rhughes
Jun 08 21:29:25 Updated: gnome-screensaver.i386 2.15.3-cvs20060608rhughes
Jun 08 21:29:28 Updated: hal-gnome.i386 0.5.8-cvs20060608rhughes
Jun 08 21:29:29 Updated: hal-devel.i386 0.5.8-cvs20060608rhughes
After those installed, suspend to ram does not work anymore on this
Dell D820 Latitude. The G-P-M icon just says "suspend problem". As
far as I can see in the log, there is no error. Nothing like the old
"syslogd did not shut down" or like that. If I remove the ipw3945
module & driver, the result is the same. I have manually killed
NetworkManager, but the same thing happens.
Look at the 3rd line about "Error sending LEDS_CMD" What's that?
Here's the /var/log/messages info:

I have a lot of programs changing at the same time, and don't know
where to look for a solution. This came on the heels of a bad weekend
in YUM because there was a bogus update of evolution-data-server that
broke a bunch of panel applications, and then on Tuesday a giant batch
of updated RPMS was released. Then I learned that you can make
NetworkManager-gnome work if you install gnome-keyring-manager.
There have been big changes in pm-utils and I can't understand the
configuration. There is no more pm-suspend. I ask because in the old
version, there was a file for nvidia-specific video configuration. I
can't find that file anymore. I am using the proprietary Nvidia
driver.
Do any of these appear suspicious? Let's suppose the sound ones are
OK, since they did not change. There are several here I don't
recognize, "arc4" "ip_conntrack_netbios_ns"
"nfnetlink"
