Hi Nigel and Mark,

thanks for the info and the effort of creating the rpms. I downloaded
the gnome-pilot* and pilot-link* rpms. A sys-admin installed them and
.....  it worked out of the box. There was no need to hardlink the
/dev/pilot to anything. If you're interested, our udev config is like
this: There is a file called
/etc/security/console.perms.d/50-default.perms

In this file we added:
<pilot>=/dev/pilot /dev/ttyUSB[0-9]*
<console>  0666 <pilot>      0660 root.uucp

And that did the trick!
