Hi John,
Welcome to the world of gnome-pilot. Development hasn't
stopped, but it's a bit weird :) The original developer
literally disappeared, and the current maintainer keeps
a very low profile, due to time constraints. There have
been some recent updates to the CVS, but there are a few
patches that have been floating around here but haven't yet
made it into CVS.

There are a couple of issues with the TH55 and linux.

Check out:
http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45838
for a patch to the visor kernel module that you will need if your
kernel is <= 2.6.4 (? I think). As of 2.6.5, this has made it
into the kernel sources.

Then, you need to add support for the TH55 vendor/product ID to
gnome pilot. Preferably edit gnome-pilot.c, adding:
	"Vendor=054c ProdID=0144", /* Sony Clie TH55 */
in the obvious place, and recompile, or you could try editing the
gnome-pilot binary:

I know there's a network-sync howto at pilot-link.org, which
might help. I don't use network-sync so I don't know what the
status is within gnome-pilot. Search the list. e.g.:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-pilot-list/2004-June/msg00033.html
and
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=119657
contains at least one success story and other frustrations...
