Unable to Sync with Handspring Treo using USB

Hello,

I am having trouble Syncing my Handspring Treo via USB with the
following software 

gnome-pilot 2.0.9
evolution 1.4
red hat 9

Syncing works fine using the serial connection.

I am seeing the following in /var/log/messages:

Jun 11 16:27:08 localhost devlabel: devlabel service started/restarted
Jun 11 16:27:13 localhost kernel: hub.c: new USB device 00:07.2-1,

Jun 11 16:27:13 localhost kernel: usbserial.c: Handspring Visor / Palm

port 0, is for Generic use and is bound to ttyUSB13733
. . .
and on much more like this.

I have seen some messages about updates to gnome-pilot to handle Treos,
but they are from 2002.   I thought they would have been committed by
now.

Any ideas?
