Hi Steve.
Have you done the Basics ?
Does your user have the rights to use the Devices ?
-> Try chmod 666 /dev/ttyS0 (=Com1) for your good old visor.
Make your smartphone work could be some more difficult.
Is this smartphone an USB-Device ? If it is, try this:
-> Find out the Device and Vendor-ID of your device. You can see them
when you run "tail -f /var/log/messages" (as root) and press the Hotsync
button.
-> Run usbserial with that properties, e.g.
modprobe usbserial vendor=0x054c product=0x0169 (replace with your ID's)
modprobe visor
-> For testing, try to make a backup:
mkdir ~/backup
pilot-xfer --port /dev/ttyUSB0 --backup ~/backup
(try ttyUSB1 and 2 too. Make a chmod 666 /dev/ttyUSB0 before)
-> If this works: Read this Howto: http://howto.pilot-link.org/evosync/
-> Tell the community or this mailing list the Device, and Vendor-ID,
your Kernel and the /dev/Device. Look at
http://wiki.pilot-link.org/index.php/DeviceMatrix
from Hamburg, Germany
