Calendar syncing

I have problems syncing with both Evolution's calendar part as well as
gnomecal. All other conduits work without any problems.
The problems with Evolution are identical to Simon's (see thread
"Calendar sync with evolution?"): appointments I enter on my Palm get
synced into Evolution. Appointments I enter in Evolution do not get
synced into my Palm. For the latter case, the ecalconduit gives the
following output, even though things have been modified in Evolution
(the conduit is set to "Synchronize"):
---
ecalconduit-Message:---------------------------------------------------------
ecalconduit-Message: pre_sync: Calendar Conduit v.0.1.6
Factory: OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_Wombat_CalendarFactory
ecalconduit-Message: Using timezone:
/softwarestudio.org/Olson_20011030_5/Europe/Amsterdam
ecalconduit-Message: Current URI
/home/martijn/evolution/local/Calendar/calendar.ics
(/home/martijn/evolution/local/Calendar/calendar.ics)
ecalconduit-Message: doing fast sync
ecalconduit-Message: for_each_modified beginning
ecalconduit-Message: iterating over 0 records
ecalconduit-Message: no events
ecalconduit-Message: post_sync: Calendar Conduit v.0.1.6
ecalconduit-Message:---------------------------------------------------------
---
As for gnomecal, which I tried next, things get worse. I have the
conduit setting "Copy from pilot". If I have no ~/.gnome/usercal.vcf
file, the conduit says
---
gcalconduit-Message: GnomeCal Conduit v.0.9
gcalconduit-Message: No entries found
gpilotd-WARNING **: Unable to delete all records in local database,
aborting operation.
---
and gpilotd moves on to the next conduit.
If I enter a simple appointment in gnomecal and then try syncing, I get
---
gcalconduit-Message: GnomeCal Conduit v.0.9
gpilotd-WARNING **: Unable to delete all records in local database,
aborting operation.
---
The appointment has been deleted on my PC; after the unsuccessful sync,
the usercal.vcf file has only five lines, viz.

Any help would be appreciated. This is a Debian unstable system, running
the latest version of all packages as listed below.
TIA,
Martijn
