RedHat-7.2 and gcc 2.96

Hi,

 

I am trying to compile gnome-pilot-1.64.  When running ./configure I get the following error "Installation or configuration problem:C++ compiler cannot create executables.  I have gcc 2.96 loaded.  I am running with RedHat 7.2.  c++ libs are installed.
