OK. So I appear to have 'gnome-pilot' (and even the 'PilotSync' applet,
v0.1.61). I got everything from Ximian via their RedCarpet application
(it was actually mixed in with the download of the latest Evolution beta
6). I'm on a RH7.1 system.
Anyway, my problem is that there don't seem to be any active conduits.
When I go into the Gnome Control Center, my Pilot device appears under
2 sub-categories called "*MISSINGNAME*"; if I select the "Pilot
Conduits" item, I get the exact same control panel as when I select the
"Pilot Link" item -- they both just have a listing of
Pilots/Devices/SyncPCId, no conduits names apparent anywhere ...
So I downloaded the latest source (0.1.62), to look at the README file
to see if there was something I wasn't doing. Can't really tell. But I
did follow the instructions in there on killing 'gpilotd' and starting
it in a console -- here's the output:
gpilotd-Message: gnome-pilot 0.1.61 starting...
gpilotd-Message: compiled for pilot-link version 0.9.5
gpilotd-Message: compiled with [VFS] [GOAD] [USB] [IrDA] [Network]
gpilotd-Message: Activating server
gpilotd-Message: Watching Cradle (/dev/pilot)
gpilotd-Message: setting PILOTRATE=57600
gpilotd-Message: Cradle Cradle has 0 events
gpilotd-Message: Instantiating 0 conduits...
gpilotd-Message: HotSync button pressed, synchronizing pilot
gpilotd-Message: Pilot ID is 15573, name is PWA-Pilot, owner is
Philip Andrew
gpilotd-Message: Pilot has 0 entries in restore queue
gpilotd-Message: Pilot has 0 entries in conduit queue
gpilotd-Message: Using conduit settings for sync...
gpilotd-Message: Synchronization ended
So it's working, without conduits. I kind of knew that, since when I
first started up the "Pilot Settings" stuff from Evolution, it ran the
setup druid and identified my Handspring device and made it beep and
everything ...
BTW, I've gotten sync. to happen through USB to JPilot on this system,
so that's not the problem. Also, I set the ownership of /dev/ttyUSB1
(which /dev/pilot points to) to myself -- is that so wrong??
Oh, and I checked, and there are files under
/usr/lib/gnome-pilot/conduits ... The only other non-standard thing I
did was to put data under ~/.gPilot rather than whatever the standard
place was (~/gpilot, I think). I don't know if that'll mess up any
sync'ing with Evolution, but for now I'd just be happy to see conduits ...
Can't think of anything else. Any help is appreciated ...
Thanks.
-Phil
P.S. Actually, just the existence of all of this crap is appreciated,
as well as the fact that I can sync. my Handspring without having to go
into Windoze!!! Any help is just an extra bonus!
