Try running both "gpilotd-control-applet" (should give pilot settings)
and "gpilotd-control-applet --cap-id=1" (should give conduits) in a
terminal and see what output you get.

You can try the packages from www.eskil.org (but if you do, replace
_both_ pilot-link and gnome-pilot). If evolution doesn't sync
afterwards, try recompiling the evolution source RPM.

Also, check out the known bugs on this problem (for Ximian's packages),
and add your report to bug 15582 or 13385:
