i was looking at it yesterday and discovered making a file where name doesn't
match first line (as in palm) totally messes up the archive to the point where
i was left with an empty directory. unfortunatyl i didn't have enough time to
chase that particular case.
atm i don't remember any name that breaks it, but i'm sure some of my stupid
one-long-line-memos causes dups. i looked briefly at protect_names and didn't
see anything obvious.
i'm hoping to have something more concrete by friday night (sigh :))
