This is very weird.  If you move pilot_set_baud_rate(device) _after_
the pi_socket, it works.  Try it... I tried it with my hacked
pilot-link.  However, with pilot_set_baud_rate before the pi_socket,
it doesn't work.  I don't know why this is, but I suspect it's not good.
