This is apparently a problem a lot of people experience, that the .gnorba
files are misplaced.

You are a victim of the RH60 /etc/CORBA vs. /usr/etc/CORBA thing. Rebuild
using
./configure --prefix=`gnome-config --prefix` --sysconfdir=`gnome-config --sysconfdir`
and make install.
It is customary to default all prefixes to /usr/local, so I'm reluctant to
make `gnome-config...` the default prefixes, but maybe...
At least, there will be a huge notice with dancing cherubs with the next
release, just to remind you.
