i have also not seen this behavior and now i also forgot to bring my 
cradle for my desktop machine from brookhaven national lab (a 5hr
drive from MIT :-<) so i have a little trouble syncing... i will try
syncing through the IR port on my laptop (this used to work with 
pilot-link). are these weird files filled with anything?
